The Chennai Super Kings (abbreviated as CSK) is a franchise cricket team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Founded in 2008, the team is being captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coached by Stephen Fleming. The team plays its home matches at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Team Composition: CSK, without doubt has one of the best batting line-ups in IPL. Suresh Raina and maverick skipper MS Dhoni, who have been part of the team right from the inaugural season, are batting mainstays of the side. Kiwi skipper Brendon McCullum, Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Smith are vital cogs of a scarily good batting lineup. While the aforementioned players are set to form the core of CSK, former Australian batsman Michael Hussey, who was picked in this year’s auction, may well have a crucial role to play in the side, as a batsman or a part of the coaching staff. CSK are stacked with a couple of world-class all-rounders too in the form of West Indies import Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja. Besides them, in Ravi Ashwin and Irfan Pathan, the team has two established India internationals.
Mohit Sharma, who had a prolific World Cup, will lead the CSK bowling. He will have good new ball partners in Matt Henry and Kyle Abbott. Ashish Nehra also provides an option for Dhoni. The core of the team has been same over the years and that has and will be CSK’s USP going into IPL 8.
Star Player: Suresh Raina, who currently holds the record for most runs in IPL, with 3325 runs under his belt, is an integral part of CSK batting unit. The left-hander has been a regular performer for the Men in Yellow and is expected to top batting charts once again. He is a proven match-winner in CSK ranks and is known as ‘IPL Bradman’ in certain sections.
Prediction: Being one of the consistent teams in the tournament, CSK, are one of the favourites to make it to the playoffs. They are tough customers to beat, irrespective of where they play. By the looks of it, the kind of team on paper, CSK have what it takes go the distance once again.
